Georgia Has a Coal Problem

Every day Georgia imports millions of tons of coal to burn.  With each load of coal that's brought into our state, Georgians send money out of state to coal producing regions...and in return, our families get the air pollution and water pollution, and our communities lose hundreds of millions of gallons of water due to evaporation from the massive coal plants.

And We're On the Fast Track to More Problems...

Georgia's economy, clean air and clean water are threatened by three proposed coal-fired power plants which will evaporate hundreds of millions of gallons of water from our rivers and aquifers every year, add tons of toxic air pollutants, and contaminate our fish with mercury.

If built, each of these coal plants would be located just outside of the metro-Atlanta region.  The pollution from these plants would contaminate south Georgia's air and water and send the energy to other parts of the state and nation.

Learn more about Georgia's rural coal belt by clicking on one of the plant links below.
